Putin: Russia ready to work on restoration of relations with US

TOKYO, Dec 13 (PRIME) -- Russia is ready to meet the U.S. halfway to restore relations under the new president, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview to Japanese television channel Nippon TV broadcast on Tuesday.

“The U.S. president-elect stands for normalization of relations, and we just have to support it…and we are ready to walk our part of the way,” he said.

U.S. companies are interested in cooperation with Russia’s oil and gas sector.

“For instance, it is known that we held a large privatization deal with one of our largest oil and gas companies – Rosneft, which sold 19.5% of its shares to a consortium of the Qatar sovereign fund and one of the world’s largest trading companies Glencore,” he said.

“We know for a fact that U.S. companies, just like Japanese express a great interest in cooperation with Russia’s oil and gas sector…It is of great importance for the world energy market and will have a direct impact on the world economy.”

Moscow is also ready for closer cooperation with Washington in fighting terrorism, he added.
